Over a month ago, Ryan (Kristen's hubby) sent out an email stating that he was having a surprise birthday run and party for Kristen's 30th birthday. He planned everything. The logistics, the shirts, the breakfast after the whole kit and caboodle. He invited us to go up and celebrate with her. So, I signed up to run the 7 miles on 7/7 at 7:00 AM.
We went up to the race yesterday, Ryan had flowers waiting there for each of us to give to her when we surprised her and sang "Happy Birthday." Kristen was so surprised, she had no idea what was going on.
Ryan started the race. Kristen and Ryan rode their bikes along the race route, since Kristen is suffering from an injury. She was able to ride and talk with everybody along the way. We finished the race at the park and had a pancake and bacon breakfast. It was really well thought out. Ryan even gave prizes to the overall male and female winners and had door prizes.
The kids played on the playground and with cousins while they waited for the runners to come across the finish line. It was a fun way to spend the morning.
