Days of '47 - A week in review

Last week, we want to get the kids out and enjoy some of the fun events going on for The Day's of '47, so we took them down on Monday to the parade preview and voted on the floats. Coly LOVED the Monsters vs. Aliens float and voted for that. It did end up winning the children's choice award. It was so fun, there were clowns making fun balloon shapes, face painters, and dancing. Coly seemed to love it.

On the 23rd, Bountiful has a parade and firework show. So, I loaded up the kids (Brian had to work early the next day) and headed to Bountiful to eat dinner and watch fireworks from my Uncle Larry's yard. I have to say that Coly was a little scared, but with Grandpa Garry holding his ears, he started to enjoy the firework. From my point of view these were probably the most beautiful fireworks I have ever seen, and we were so close it looked like we could reach up and touch them.

On the 24th, we took the kids down to the parade. GG, Aunt J, Aunt Lindsey and Carter, Neeners, the kids and I watched the parade in the shade. Coly loved the plane that flew over the parade route he wanted more planes to fly by. He also, loved the motorcycles, floats, and danced to the marching bands. After, we had lunch at the Old Spaghetti Factory where Colin flipped spaghetti sauce on my shirt. It was so funny, but I had to act upset so that this did not become a regular occurrence. At, the end of the day Bri lit fireworks in the street and Coly was helping. It was a great week of fun and I look forward to many more with the kiddos.

Creighton University

Brian, has been wanting to go back to school since we returned home from California and the year of law school. He has contemplated many schools and programs. Recently, he decided to apply for the Negotiation and Dispute Resolution Master's program through Creighton University Law School. Creighton University is located in Omaha, Nebraska and is the school that Jazz player Kyle Korver attended. Today we were notified that Brian was accepted into this program, YAY! So, back to school Brian goes. (For every one's information, this is an Online program in which Brian only travels to Nebraska 3 times in 2 years. So we are not moving to Nebraska).

GG's Pool

My grandmother lives in a condo in Holladay. She is always asking for her kids, grandkids and great-grandkids to come over and swim in her pool. So, yesterday due to the extreme heat and the inability to cool off, it was suggested by my mom that we go to my grandmothers house to swim. So, we packed up and headed over to her house. (Now, I want my kids to call my grandma, GG since it is easier then saying great-grandma and my grandma is ok with this. Yesterday, Coly started saying GG when he was talking to her or looking for her.) With me still unable to swim, Audra and I sat on the patio and watched as Coly, Brian, Mom, Gar and GG swam in the pool. Coly had a great time with everyone, he really loved it when Grandpa and Dad jumped or dived into the pool. He also loved jumping up and down with Neener's and Dad, making splashes. It was a nice relaxing cool down from a hot summers day.

A New Goal

I have decided that I want to set a new goal for myself. I want Coly and Audra (when she is a little older) to have a bunch of happy and fun memories of growing up. So, I have decided to set this new goal for myself. I want to provide a fun activity for the kids most days of the week, this would include things like baking something, crafts, outdoor activities and museums/kids zones. So, I know that this could get challenging but I am on a mission. I want our kids to look back on life and say that they had a good childhood. I want you all to know that I am in NO way perfect and that I know this is going to be something I have to work at.

So, with this new goal in mind, we started today. We made caterpillars out of egg cartons. I know that this is way simple but it was a fun thing for Colin. We even had an interesting start, Coly spilled paint all over the floor, table and himself, thank goodness it all cleaned up. Colin loved mixing the paints and using a new paint brush for everything. It was fun and he did a great job.

Weekend Fun

Saturday, we decided to take Colin up to the Hill Aerospace Museum, because he has been noticing planes in the sky recently. They have some planes outside and then the fighter planes inside. Colin, was running around like a wild man to each plane saying "wow" and was showing dad the planes. He could not get enough of the planes and did not want to go into the building until he realized that there would be more on the inside. He also, got a foam airplane to fly (which did not last long), that he has been carrying around since he got it.
Today (Sunday), we went for a tiny hike up Big Cottonwood Canyon. So, Audra had her first hike, which she slept through. It was so nice to get out and get a little sun. Coly, loved it. He threw rocks into the river, picked up sticks and got dirty like little boys are suppose too. Brian, bless his heart, pushed both kids and carried the backpack, because I am still trying to heal. All in all we had a great weekend.

B, B, B

When I was a little kid, I called my blanket a "B". I could not say the word blanket, so B was it's name. Well, as I have grown the word B is still the word of choice for blanket. My family also uses the word B, it just stuck.
Well, Coly has had a B that he loves but only really needed or wanted it to sleep. But since the arrival of Audra, as she has a B all the time, Coly feels he needs his B all the time also. Today, he went down to his room and brought up his B, while he watched a movie. So, when he went down for his nap he started saying B, B, B. Now, this is not the first time he has said B, but it is becoming a more regular word in his vocab. I just love the fact that he too calls his blanket a B.

2 Weeks

Yesterday, Audra became 2 weeks old. So, we were at the doctor's for her 2 week check. She weighs in at 8 lbs 10 oz, which is almost a pound more than when she was born. She also measured 22 inches which is an inch longer than at birth. Dr. Fox stated that she is a healthy little girl. She had to have the typical blood work done which broke my heart. Then, her big brother fell off the chair in the lab and bonked his head and tailbone. I had 2 kiddos crying at the same time, I was a little overwhemled truthfully. Parenting 2 children is a lot different than parenting 1. I guess I have a lot to learn, on how to balance both kiddos.
