Rock Wall Climbing

Brian and I, have talked in the past that we want to try rock wall climbing with the kids.  Neither of us have ever done it, so we thought we might try it out as a family.  We did just that on President's Day.  The kids immediately loved it.  They had some much fun trying to the climb the walls and they couldn't wait for Bri and I to belay them.  Bri and I learned how to belay and everyone tried climbing.  I have to say that it makes me a little nervous and I have a hard time climbing to high.  I get really hot, and my palms sweat and it just freak out.  But I had a great time just like Colin, Audra and Brian did.  I look forward to going at it again in the future.

Look Who's Coaching

This fall we gave Colin a list of sports he could participate in, he chose basketball.  I then asked Brian if he would be willing to be his coach and he agreed.  Here is the first day of basketball with Brian as the coach and then the professional photo of Colin and Brian.

Colin Learns to Ride a Bike

Brian has had a goal of teaching Colin to ride a bike.  It has been bugging him that we had not done so.  We had worked with Colin a couple of different times, but it just was not clicking.  This past Saturday, we went over to Grandma Debby and Grandpa Steve's house.  Grandma got her bike out and was helping Colin by showing him how to ride.  Well, it clicked and Colin figured out how to ride his bike.
Sunday, we took him over to the school parking lot and worked on it a little more.  He has figured out turns and we are still working on braking but he can ride his bike.

Colin's First Track Meet

As you know Colin is running track this year.  There are a few meets that he is just too young to participate in, for Hershey's you need to be 9-14 and then the USATF Jr. Olympics he could participate but we feel he is too young at this point.  So, when we were told about the Tiny Tots meets we were excited, because it's only for kids ages 2-10.  Both Colin and Michael (neighbor friend) participated.  Colin ran the 100 M, 80 M Hurdles, threw the javelin, and threw the soft ball too.  He tried so hard and worked his tail feathers off.  We are so proud of him.  He got over all his hurdles, just knocking down the very last one.  All the kids got a medal and an otter pop, which was really fun for each of them.

Track Season

Tuesday was suppose to be the first day of Track season, but we had quite the rain storm on Tuesday and it was cancelled.  So, Wednesday was the actual first day.  There are 3 kids in our neighborhood that are in the program, so we are carpooling, and it was another mom's turn to take the kids.  Yesterday, I got to take them to practice.  Can I tell you how much I already love the program! Colin was running his heart out and trying SO hard to get some of the other moves down.  I am excited about the up coming season and sure hope that Colin loves this sport.

Brian's Marathon

Most of you I am sure know that my husband can run so very long distances.  But this year he has decided to run nothing more than a 50K.  Which is about 31 or so miles.  This is so he can do well for his big race, SpeedGoat.  Which is held in late July up at Snowbird.  So, all of his races before that are more or less training races for SpeedGoat.
Months ago, Brian was selected to run the Ogden Marathon (lottery style).  After, dropping the kids off to my parents, we headed to Ogden to spend the night for the race.  Well, late afternoon or early evening in day before it started to rain and it never stopped.  We got up at 2 AM to get Bri ready and had him dropped off at 4:15 AM so he could catch the bus to the start line.
I got to the finish line about 3:30 hours into the race, as Bri was not sure when he would cross.  So, I wanted to make sure that I was there.  I was standing in the down pour waiting for Brian and so many of the runners just looked miserable.  They had literally ran the entire time in the rain.  Bri was in sight just under 4:30.  I was so happy to see him.  He was drenched and cold, but did it.
He is looking forward to the St. George Marathon race in October, in hopes for a dry race that he can improve his time.

Coli's Basketball

Yesterday, was Colin's last basketball game for the season.  He has made so much improvement it has been so fun to watch.  We told Colin, if he got a basket, we would pay him a dollar.  Early on in the game he got the ball and another player stole it from him.  Bri said "That was his chance to make a basket."  We really hoped that he would get another chance, but he is not very aggressive so he doesn't get the ball often.  Well, shortly after he proved mom and dad wrong.  Not only did he snag the ball from someone, he shot and made the basket!  YAY!  It was his first basket of the season.  It made it all worth it and this mommy was super proud!
After the game, the coach handed out participation awards.  Colin was super excited to get a "medal."  It was a great season, with the best ending.

Lou Starts Soccer

Audra Lynn started soccer last night.  She has been looking so forward to soccer season starting she could hardly wait.  Last night was her first game and it went well.  She kicked the ball a few times and threw it in, but she had a hard time getting into the pack.  It was really cold last night at the game, so I don't know if that had something to do with it or not.  She is playing with 2 friends from the ward, Taylor and Sadie.  Sadie was so cold she would not play last night.  On the way home Audra stated "my friends didn't pass me the ball."  So, we need to work on stealing the ball from the other team.  It should be a fun 4 weeks.

Mo Williams

Yesterday, Colin had team photos for his basketball team.  We arrived at the rec center and were waiting for the rest of his team, when I noticed a line of people getting autographs from a gentleman.  Coli's coach took his son over, so I followed his lead.  We ended up getting Mo Williams autograph and picture.  WOW!  (Let's be honest I didn't know he was Mo, but I do know that Mo plays for the Jazz.  Bonus mommy points??)  I had one happy little boy, because he met a real basketball player.  A BIG shout out to Mo, for signing all the kids jersey's and taking pictures.  Thanks Mo!!!!

Colin Starts Basketball

Brian and I have been on a hunt to find a sport that Coli loves.  He did like Karate, but Bri feels it was not active enough for him.  Soccer was a challenge, as he would run his heart out, but not kick the ball.  I think he was nervous to get into the mix.  So, when he had fun at P.E. in basketball, we thought we would try that.  Today was his first clinic of 3 before they have games.  I think he really liked it, he even made a basket practicing.  I hope that he continues to love the sport.

Wowzers Wednesday

Do you ever have those wild Wednesdays?  Well, today was that for me.  I don't know why but some days are just like that.  You just feel like you are running from one place to the other.  Trying to please everyone and get everything done.  So, glad that it is over and hope that tomorrow is better.  We did, however, get a couple fun things in too.
Our ward has a playgroup, that I take the kids too.  They love to see their friends and get out in the morning at least one day a week.  Today, our playgroup went to the Holladay Library for the Reptile Show.  The guy from the reptile place was so charismatic and fun with the kids.  (I realized to late that I should have taken the big camera, instead I got these with my camera on my phone.)  The kids loved it, they sat right up front and enjoyed the show, Lynnie even held a turtle.  The boys were too nervous to hold the turtles.  Whoot, Whoot Lynnie you rock!  However, all 3 of them touched a snake, which impressed me. (Sorry, the pictures won't rotate)
I will skip all the boring details of the in between and get to the end.  Coli played in his last soccer game of the season.  I have come to the conclusion that soccer is not his sport.  He does not enjoy it all that much.  However, he was super excited to get his trophy and pass out the treats tonight.  I am proud of you Bug for giving soccer a go.  He told me coming home, he is ready to get back to Karate.

Cute Soccer Boys

This year we decided to get Coli out playing some sports.  We asked him what he wanted to play T-Ball, Soccer or Basketball.  He told us soccer.  I signed him up.  Then one day we drove past a park were some kids were playing soccer and he said to Lynnie, "that is what I always wanted to play."  He has been so excited for soccer to start.
Once, I told Lindsey that we were putting Coli into soccer, she thought it was a good idea and signed Carter Man up for soccer in their area.  Carter started a week earlier then Coli, but both have been super excited.
Well, this past week was Coli's first 2 games.  He played 2 full quarters for each game.  The coach is fantastic, he makes sure that every one has the same amount of time and tries so hard to make sure that each kiddo gets to throw the ball in or make corner kicks.
So, yesterday I took both kids to watch Carter Man play his game.  He is a little rock star, he played the majority of the game only sitting out for a few minutes.  He assisted with a goal and was right in the mix.  His team "The Blue Ninjas" totally kicked some grass and won (they don't really keep score, but it was very apparent who won).

After Carter's game, I feed my 2 and then took Coli to his game.  He is a great runner.  Colin runs the whole time with a smile on his face and his tongue sticking out (a Nelson trait).  He is a little timid about kicking the ball, I didn't see him kick the ball once, but he did get to throw it in.  His team "Green Angry Birds" also kicked some grass and won.  It was a good time with lots of laughs as we watched these young kids play soccer.
Now, I have to do a little segment on Lynnie.  She missed the deadline to play by 2 months, which is sad for her.  She really wants to play soccer like the boys.  She is a good little cheerleader and is excited to "get bigger" so she too can play soccer.
GOOD JOB COLIN AND CARTER!  WAY TO KICK SOM E GRASS!
